And considerable numbers were brought to the Lord. And he left for Tarsus to look for Saul; and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch"
(Acts 11:23-26).
In his now classic book on leadership, "Good to Great," Jim Collins describes an organization like a bus. It's the CEO's job to determine not only who belongs on the bus (and who doesn't), but also where each of the people on the bus need to be seated. Obviously this metaphor cannot be pressed too hard with respect to the church. By virtue of one's faith in Jesus, everyone belongs on this bus.
That said, church health and growth is directly related to people knowing what their gifts are and finding the right "seat on the bus."
Barnabas knew that Saul needed to be on the "Antioch bus," and the Holy Spirit made sure to put Saul in the right seat
(Acts 13:1-2).
Dear friends, it's not enough just to be on the bus.
Ask God to tell you where on the bus you belong. Put your gifts to work for the Body of Messiah, and watch God do great things in and through you! "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave.
You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master'"
(Matt 25:21).
