The NEW
"The brethren immediately
sent
Paul and Silas away by night to Berea,
and when they arrived, they went into the
synagogue of the Jews
Now these were more
noble-minded
than those in Thessalonica, for they
received the word with great eagerness,
examining the Scriptures daily to
see whether these things were so.
Therefore many of them believed, along with a
number of prominent Greek women and men" (Acts 17:10-12).
Years ago in an auditorium
filled to capacity,
one student asked Dr. John Sailhamer,
"Why did you decide to get a PhD in the
Old Testament?"
Sailhamer's response was true
to the Berean tradition
"I just wanted to understand
My
New Testament better."
If we had the opportunity to ask Paul or
any of the other
writers of the New Testament,
"How can we better understanding your writings?"
Most assuredly they would not
send us
first to the Rabbinic writings
(although I'm not knocking the importance of
knowing the Rabbinic literature)
Rather they would say,
"The more carefully you study the Tanakh (OT),
the more you will not only understand
what we have written,
but the more you will actually appreciate our point!"
Want to fall in love with the New Testament?
Want to grow more in love with Jesus?
"This book of the Torah
shall not
depart from your mouth,
but you
shall
meditate on it day and night"
(Josh 1:8a).
